Advise on accounting programs?
I own a small business and have realized my accounting procedures are terrible. I cannot afford a bookkeeper. In researching the internet it appears as the Quicken for home and small business or Intuits Quickbooks are both good programs. Any advise on which one of these to purchase or do you recommend another program?
Thanks capwest! Actually, I do have a pretty decent understanding of accounting. Unfortunately my laziness with keeping records has been the problem. This is why I decided I need to be disciplined, find a good program and input everything all of the time…..
I recommend Quickbooks, and do not recommend Quicken.
Quickbooks is a full-featured software program. Although it takes some time to get used to (i.e. has a bit of a learning curve), it will be able to handle any transaction you need to enter. With Quicken, at some point you will want to make an entry that the software won’t allow.

But if you don’t understand accounting, no software program is going to solve terrible accounting procedures though.
